Hi all, would it be suitable to use a piece of 32mm/40mm plumbing waste pipe put through the side of my chimney breast just to keep fire opening aired out.
Cover externally with a small round vent.

Your earlier thread claimed an elec fire was being installed in the fireplace - if "fire opening" means the fireplace with the elec fire then why does it need venting?
Redundant chimney flues require venting not open fireplaces.

Why would you want to use 32mm 0r 40mm core hole vents - typically, hit&miss vents are used because they give you control.

The fire opening would be boarded all around including the top so therefore no ventilation, hence why I asked to ventilate from the side, hope this makes sense.

Yes, you have to control ventilation in to a sealed chimney. That control is needed because of the condensation risk.....

Its not necessary "to control ventilation" as such. Ventilation could be provided by an air brick.
Hit&Miss vents give the householder control of when & how much ventilation is provided.

If you were really trying to control the ventilation you would be applying the 3 degree rule..... but only those that know, know what that is...
