They was brought in after WW2 to fill shortfalls in labour such as bus drivers and other menial tasks where needed. I wouldn't say that they built Britain.
No. I'm sure others have said it too.
The Oirish played a big part, about 500,000 came over in the 1800's to help build out canals and were always (maybe only until recent decades) a large part of the building industry.
Were they immigrants though?, before 1920 it was part of the UK and after that they had an automatic freedom of movement agreement which is how my lot rocked up.

I can't find a quote from her claiming 'immigrants built Britain' but an article at Global Government Forum quotes her saying:
