Years ago, when doing any redecoration in my house, I took the opportunity to replace any old light switches and 13A sockets in the room, using whatever make/model was readily available at the time. However, that has led to something of a mish-mash of styles across the whole property, so nowadays I have standardised on using the BG 800 series (as my wife prefers the rounded slimline style to the old thick square versions).

However I have noticed recently that at least two of the new BG800 switches (a 2-gang and a 3-gang) have developed hairline cracks in the face plate each side of the actual switch units after only 1 or 2 years. Have I perhaps simply over-tightened the fixing screws, or is there a known problem with BG800? So far none of the 1-gang switches seem to be affected.

Not something I've noticed, makes me think it may be over tightening

BG is total rubbish, but shouldn't happen.
DO you think you over-tightened the face plate screws?

OR, since it's the 2 and 3 gang ones only, is there more wiring at the back, and the back box is too shallow, and you've FORCED the face plate back to the wall, causing strain on the faceplate?

OR, have you struggled to get the new face plate screws into the old threaded holes of the box?

Can you send photographs of them all?

I believe BG did have a 30 year guarantee - but I've many BG problems between fitting the stuff, and within a year of fitting the stuff.

The 2-gang is in a 35mm Appleby drywall box, with one cable for each gang, so there ought not to be a problem. The 3-gang I have yet to take off to see what is behind it.
