Congratulations LANDO & Mclaren

Yeah, his only threat was Leclerc but if Leclerc had taken third position, pushing him to 4th, Piastri would have been ordered to give up his second place and drop back to 4th to give Lando 3rd place and the championship so the team had him covered but what a great charge at the end of the season from Verstappen. If he'd have won, that would have been a deserved victory.

Doubtless a brilliant driver and result, but cannot see the attraction of F1 today compared to the 60's and 70's

Making F1 super-safe for the drivers took an edge off the spectacle for audiences.
Heck of an achievement to become only the 11th Brit to win the title, but not in the same class as Mansell or Hunt.

Yeah, bring back the good old days of open faced helmets, no safety cell, no Halo, no HANS, compulsory refuelling during the race and cotton overalls. That’ll get the viewing figures back up. ;)

Not sure I agree there.

F1 has become more a purists sport, appreciated by those that fully understand the sport and its idiosyncrasies. It's extremely technical, whereby the margins between winning and coming last have been compressed over the years. Occasional fans like me found the swashbuckling approach more appealing, yes, whilst a whole new younger fan base has replaced us old duffers and appreciate the fine tech approach.

Well, it was more exciting: cars wheel to wheel, farting flames of fury down the back straight. Days of thunder when men were men, women walked around wearing just enough to inspire your imagination and dogs howled at the moon just for the helluvit.
That's why you're more likely to watch a film involving Lauda-Hunt and Prost-Senna than a modern equivalent rivalry.

I'd watch that.

Not many people watch sport to enjoy the technical details. Sport is about glory, not crunching numbers in a comfy chair, sipping a latte.

Lauda coming back to race in the same season half his face was burnt off seems unbelievable now.
