Hi all

Loft conversion, though I allowed 80mm clearance on the roof insulation (drilled a 80mm hole on the underside, another 80mm above to meet regs) the electrician got a bit excited with a Alan key / drill and channelled more out. Should I leave as is or fill with a non combustable mineral insulation?

This is a question that needs looking at with some knowledge.
I would always go with surface spots but things have moved on with fire rated spot lights.

I agree with surface. Notwithstanding theb fact that the insulation is there to keep heat in the house. If you carve dollops out then it reduces the thermal effectivity. I have seen LABC refuse sign off for a roof conversion because this was done.
To do this effectively, you need a WARM ROOF construction.
