One thing I'm not too happy with is the lack of anything on the ends of the tubes - just the sheath direct on the cut edges.

Yes, a decent option. But ...
What are they called ? Any examples of where they are sold ? Do they do them in the different sizes/shapes needed - some conduits are round, some are oval.
I imagine "bush" will appear in the description - but that's a rather generic term to search for.

15mm or 22mm plastic pipe inserts might possibly be suitable (for round conduit)

TBH I didn't do a lot (well, any) of looking at actual sizes, but e.g.


In the US they have things called "anti short bushing".

What about those split glands for flexible conduit? That comes in a 16mm size, but are the glands M16 or M20? If the former, they might fit OK if you don't snap them shut.


I imagine you'll be stuffed re oval.
 
Or what about short lengths of the actual flexible conduit? Cut a spiral slit in it?
