I can vividly remember listening to Jeff on the Chris Evans radio show and Evans asked him why he wasn't doing live shows anymore and Jeff more or less said people didn't want to see them anymore. Evans said that's rubbish, you could sell out Wembley 10 times over or words to that effect. The BBC were so flooded with calls that he got together with Richard Tandy and they reformed, doing a 50,000 show at Hyde Park before going on to do the Wembley shows.

Speaking of Chris Evans, I was listening to him one day and Richard and Judy phoned in and suggested he do his breakfast show where they lived at Talland Bay, Chris came up with all sorts of reasons why it would be difficult, space for one, Richard said they could use the local farmers field, the farmer ended up phoning in because that was the first he heard of it.
Anyway, a week or so later, he got the ball rolling and invited people to phone in for free tickets, all you needed was a tent and a couple of kids.
I mentioned it to Mrs filly and she said I'm going to phone in. I said we haven't got a tent, I'll borrow one she said, we haven't got any kids, she said I'll borrow your nieces two. Anyway, she phoned in and blagged the tickets.
Brilliant, got there the night before, they did a quiz, barbeque then a local band, got woken at about 5, mrs filly got to speak on the radio, Scouting for Girls did a live set, moira Anderson did the news in a horsebox, it was a brilliant time and Chris Evans is one of the nicest blokes I've ever met.

Mrs filly and Chris.

Always thought he was a good guy

Always thought he was a good guy

He had a couple of years when he went off the rails, maybe it all went to his head, it would have been around the time he bought Virgin Radio,
I've got a relative who lives next to Marlow Bridge on the Thames and Chris lives directly opposite, he always gets involved in local events and will stop and chat to anyone along Marlow High St, he's great with kids. My relative has got to know him quite well in recent years.
