Nine years ago we had a Hikvision CCTV system installed and one of the dome cameras stopped working about 3 weeks ago. I got inside the camera and pulled the RJ45 connection apart and put it back together again and the camera started working again ! After a few days it stopped working again and this time I just pushed the cable up into the camera frame a bit more and it started working again. It worked for about 2 weeks and after some serious wind it stopped. I began to think that the RJ45 connection was to blame and so I took the camera down and with a short piece of cable that I had made up I coupled it up to the relevant port on the back of the NVR. It worked fine, even when I wiggled the RJ45 joint.
And so I have concluded that the male part of the joint has a fault in it somewhere. It is probably obvious by now that I don’t really know what I am doing with these sort of things but I do have an RJ45 crimping kit which I bought for another purpose and although I find fitting the joints a bit fiddly I seem to be able to do it.
But I am wondering if, when the system was installed, if the RJ45 joints were not done properly. This is a photo. of the joint inside the camera and the “female” part of it looks as if the male part should have a collar that screws over the female part once it has all been pushed together.
When the weather starts to behave itself I intend to replace the RJ45 joint but just wondered if there was an alternative way, maybe by even putting a male connector on both the cable to the NVR and on the cable that goes into the camera itself and using a “joiner” to join them together . Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. I know that when I look carefully at the existing RJ45 I will probably be able see the which wires go in which slot but does anyone know if it should be wired T568A or T568B ? Any help and/or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
