
Old trick, knock a small hole with a hammer and push a piece of wire through the wall part. That's definitely what it is.The picture shows an inspection/access hatch within a few inches of the hole, so it would be a bit bizarre to deliberately make the hole to clear a blockage.
Not if you don't screw it in too far.That also avoids creating an obstruction within the pipe which using a bolt would do.

That looks like solid zinc not the perforated kind, which of course has holes all over it.
It should work but does look a bit untidy and you may have created a crevice between the outside of the pipe and the inside of the zinc, unless you bedded the zinc into the soudal before sealing around it.

It's fine. Perhaps coat it all smooth then paint it if you have some.you think it will do the job?
