As someone who spends a lot of my time on and in the sea water I wouldn't wish to be travelling in an open (small) boat this last Month!
Which month would any sane seafarer cross the channel in

Labour will be having an inquiry into this monthly total, there will be panic at this downturn in imported voters.

Kier will be on the blower to the RNLI right now, demanding they bloody well get out there and find some.

Depends on the boat speed and size obviously.
But with sea temperatures close to 10 degrees or less, wind speed above 10 kts and heavy rain. its not ideal.
Anything other than a southerly is not great, if you are going North. Easterlies and westerlies will aid a sailing boat, but give you choppy water with wind over tide if you time it wrong
while Jan-25 had a some days with very strong winds, Jan-26 had twice as many days with heavy rain and strong winds

Labour have second highest all-time yearly number of small boat migrants. Nothing to be proud about. So much for "Smash the gangs".
So who presided over the highest number?

Conservatives. 2022 when they tightened up inspections and brought in £10k per person fines for those arriving by lorry.

But for a week or two of bad weather, Labour would have taken the top spot last year. Everyone knows that. Not everyone wants to hear or admit that.

Since we are cherry picking months - December-2024 under Labour was the worse month on record
