I'm not sure if it's just a temporary state of mind for many of us, partly fueled by social media, soundbites and misinformation left right and centre (pardon the pun!), however there seems to be a real feeling that our current political system isn't working. At the very least, it's an assertion that is relatively easy to defend.
We have our established parties, Labour, Conservative, Lib Dems, Plaid, SNP and Sinn Fein (not an exhaustive list). However there appears to be a feeling that, no matter who holds power, we are increasingly getting the same delivery (or lack thereof) promises not kept, scandals etc.
What is the answer for us here in the UK? Is it Reform? Or the Greens? If they (Reform) gain power, will we simply see them morph into all the rest, lack of delivery, excuses, scandals, tax increases etc? Because of human traits that many leaders hold, is that a consequence we simply need to accept and expect of anyone at the top?
If we don't think Reform is the answer, then what is? Perhaps we need reform (again pardon the pun) and a significant one at that, perhaps including the abolition of the Lords? However, whilst there seems to be a lot of talk about changes that could be made, we seem to remain with the status quo from one GE to the next.
For example, up here we have the SNP in power. During a recent Debate Night (think Scottish QT) the SNP housing minister used the phrase politicians love to use, green shoots when referring to housing. Another panel member made a very valid point, saying 'If you're only at the green shoots stage after 19 years, what does that say about your party?'
These sort of exchanges can occur interchangeably between any of the main parties, such is their level of double standards and short memories.
So, back to my original question, what is the answer?
