Checking Oil level

I used to pay £1.99 a gallon for Solvol 20w/50 engine oil. Duckhams and Castrol GTX were both £7.95 a gallon at the time. Extortionate! I think it was Duckhams that was green in colour.

Remember when working as a pump-attendant and my friend - in one of those boring moments - was reading the Duckhams packaging and suddenly read out their slogan :

Duckhams - the Quintessence of Quality

I wonder how many more quarts that sold ?

Was it GTX oil in the advert where they drained all the (GTX) oil out of an engine and the car did a lap or two round a circuit with no oil in it and suffered no damage?

I recall a Moly product (Molyslip ? ) doing something like that
