Trying, to make myself an automatic centre-pop. Like a normal centre-pop, but using a sort of sprung slide hammer on the shaft. Put the point on the spot, retract the brass against the spring, then let go. I just have to harden the point, then fix the stop.
We were given a set of six, china coffee cups, in the 80's, give-aways, by collecting coupons at Esso. I eventually broke four of them, my favourite for coffee, and looked on Ebay for replacements - they went for £20 each, and I wasn't £20 desperate. I found some in a charity shop weeks later.

Yes, that’s the one although I found a secondhand one on eBay being sold by a charity shop. £18 inc. postage so I've bought that.

Up early and was at the local tip at 7.30 to offload the tree stump and root that I dragged out of the ground with my car yesterday.
Had my mate come back with his Transit for me to fit a new driveshaft. It only had a split cv boot but when we tried to replace the other side just over a year ago, we could not get the joint off of the shaft. Decided not to waste time trying the same on the other side so just ordered a complete new driveshaft. I’m still amazed that I could get next day delivery for a brand new driveshaft with obviously new cv joints and boots and the centre support bearing for just £55. I told him it would take 20 minutes to fit, he doubted it but from the moment I jacked it up to the moment I let it down was just 19 minutes. I surprised myself too!
Changed the rear incandescent indicator bulbs on the Tucson for LED's and wow, what a difference. I think I’ll change the fog and reversing bulbs next.
Popped over the allotment to water my seedlings and sow some pumpkin seeds and then back home to dig over the adopted bed across the road from me. Hit a (roughly) 1m square patch of concrete just an inch under the surface and then remembered that there used to be a telephone box in that bed about 20 years ago. Had to build the soil level up on that and I’ll only be able to plant shallow rooted bedding plants in that position. Had a neighbour knock on my door to tell me "Très Bien" about the bed which was strange as she's not French!
Tomorrow, I’m going to transplant some plants from my mums garden onto that patch. I’ll sleep well tonight!

Started the decorating on the back bedroom today after my mate had plastered over the artexed ceiling on Monday. He said he had given it a "Hard trowel" and said I had to lightly sand it before applying my first sealing coat of paint. Did that but that was an arm breaker. Gave it a second and third coat and refitted the lights back up. Mrs Mottie has been on at me to get this ceiling sorted since we moved in in 1990 and it was done exactly 36 years to the day! No point in rushing a job is there? Besides, the kids moved out over 15 years ago and that room is used once or twice a year if they stay over. My hands though - rough as f'ck! I wear nitrile gloves when working on cars but today I’ve been working bareback and I think I’ve worn my fingerprints off, my hands are all rough and scratchy. Yuk. Don’t like this 'work' malarky at all. Next job will be to paint the walls, paint the woodwork, board out the floor and have new carpet laid. While I was doing that, I sent Mrs Mottie out in the Fiesta to fill it up with fuel. She said there was a long queue at Tesco's and when she got to the pump, she opened the fuel filler flap and couldn’t work out what to do! This is the first time in 6 months she has gone to put fuel in this car (she normally drives and fuels the Tucson). She thought the fuel cap was missing at first (they don't have one) so she got out her glasses, had a look, closed the flap and came back home! I had to go out and fill the bugger up - gonna have to give her lessons in putting fuel in the Fiesta.
Arrived today. £18 delivered, from a charity shop on eBay. That’s got me out of the doghouse!
Filling, sanding, painting, filling, sanding, painting. That’s the walls in the back bedroom painted. Almond white. Looks like magnolia to me but £38 a tin! Woodwork tomorrow, then rip up the carpet and underlay and board out the floor ready for the new carpet. Got to repeat the process in the main bedroom after that. Polished pebble apparently. Thats light grey to you and me.

Attempting a first cut of the grass in the garden. I put the battery back in the little tractor, it started first pull, and I got 1/3 done, before it stopped cutting. I ran it onto a paved area next to the workshop, and found lots of problems. An heavy steel bracket had come adrift, support one side of the deck, a pulley tensioning spring had come off completely, and a large spring for some other purpose was hanging loose, maybe a counter-balance spring for the deck.
Refitting the tension spring went OK, but I could work out where the top end of the big deck support spring was intended to go.
Deck had rusted through, where the bracket was, so I found some steel to reinforce it, welded it in place, then the bracket. I then found I messed up and got the top end of the bracket in inch out, relative to its opposite number, so it will have to come back off.
Turning cold, and me worn out, I gave up for the day..

Bit of an easy day today working in the back bedroom. Refitted all the plug sockets on the wall that were removed so that I didn’t have to cut in around them when I painted. Replaced one cracked socket. Replaced two aerial points as they had yellowed. Refitted the blinds, took up the carpet and underlay and run that to the tip. Tomorrow I am going to screw down all the squeaky creaky floorboards and board over them with some ply to give a nice flat floor to carpet on to. I had some board left over from when I did the front bedroom as I over ordered. I know where I bought the stuff from and it looks like they only do 5.5mm board but looking at what I bought last time, it’s not quite that size. Tried measuring it several ways but can’t be sure. I suppose I might as well chuck that and get fresh.
