It's the boiler at fault, he should have known that at the very least. He claimed he did not understand where the wiring is going back to the kitchen.

I have no idea who he is, or what he does. You have a boiler problem and got a boiler repair guy to look at it but he wants you to find out if it's actually a boiler problem (which it is, the internal fuse(s) are blowing).Anything you suggest I ask him to find out if he is whatever you suspect he is?
He even suggested schemes that would be far cheaper diagnostics and repairs than he would have to charge for taking the time and parts, but said I had to conclusively know about the electrics first and that was more an electricians job/ volt pen discovery.

He was by far the best reviewed boiler repair service, in a way that was hard to fake (multiple specific reviews and reviewers with years of positive and negative reviews for the local area).

I’m not sure what you’re getting at with some comments, but care to elaborate on flipping the big lever on the CU without further testing?Interesting thread. In general questions about boilers get told to go and justify a course cowboy's subscription to gassafe.
Meanwhile, advice that could easily kill someone is happily ignored. Flipping the big lever on the CU does not mean you are safe to carry on without further testing.
