My Tits are back!

Might be early days or just wishful thinking but I’ve just seen not one, but two different blue tits check out a birdbox I have on the side of my shed. Never had anything nest in it for 5 years or more. Fingers crossed!

After checking out the box for the last month, yesterday my tits started bringing nesting material into the box.
Last year no birds built a nest in that box (the one with the camera) but there was activity in the others.

I've got tits too. Just moved into the nest box that I put up last autumn, after I closed up the hole in the fascia they were nesting behind previously. Coming and going with stuff.

Nothing in mine so far. Both times I have had them, it’s been around mid May so there’s still time yet. Fingers crossed.

The last time they nested in that box they didn't start building a nest until 18th April. I know because I kept a nest box diary.

I think mine were mid May. Still nothing and the app for my camera has changed. I couldn’t get it to work. Took it out today to try to connect. No luck. Removed it and I may have found why I’ve only had one brood in there. The hole in the front is too big. Was 32mm but read online that they like 25mm holes so that bigger birds can’t get in and kick them out. Fitted a blanking plate over the hole, drilled a 25mm hole in it and put it back up. I might get lucky this year. Nothing in the Robin box this year either. :(

Strangely, my bird abandoned the box about a month ago, and hasn't been seen since. I have one of these on the box. It's 25mm but I also have a 28mm one for Great Tits.

My nest box is just in the corner of my vision sitting at my desk. Constant backwards and forwards with food, both parents very busy.

Mine's a specific blue tits box. We also have another with a bigger hole. The sparrows booted the blue tits out one year, but we haven't seen them for a few years. I've emptied/rinsed it all out once too, still not happy with it. That cover plate would be a good idea, but this is concrete so I couldn't fix it on.

Sorry I stole your tits with my new luxury accomodation.
