I don't get the excitement about the moon pass. They did the same thing in 1968.

Not too impressive seing is I do that most days in my cherry picker and only takes a fraction of the fuel to get me up there.Apollo 8 went all the way round the moon and back to earth for the first time in 1968. That's all they've done so far this time.

If you look back to the 60s, though, the business case was solid. Nothing is more important than not being beaten by your "enemy".
