The 'laws of physics', are decided to match what we observe, to explain how we think, and believe things work - only until we find something which doesn't quite fit, then we change the laws to suit.

I watched it last week. It's very good, although my Mrs hyped it up too much before hand (she'd already read the book) and I was expecting it to be spectacular.

Gravity, just a theory. Quantum Physics, just a load of theories, the big bang just a theory. Laws of physics, just theories.
All supported by huge amounts of experimental and theoretical evidence, but still theories.

We observe, we experiment, we decide what theory fits, we test the theory, and if it works - we accept it.
We don't, often we get it wrong. History is littered with theories, which were later proven to be wrong.
