We all look at batteries and solar, and what our payback time will be, we are working out costs years ahead, it will likely take between 6 and 10 years to get my investment back, but with changes like this, how do we decide?
I watched
Jonathan Tracey says his standing charge has gone up, and so has mine, now I can see the cost of electric changing, but within a month the standing charge going up, at what point will it be better to have a diesel generator in the garden? Well TVO would be better, then it can run on my heating oil.

Indeed, which is why I always say than an 'investment' which means that we will be 'worse off' for the next 6-10 years seems to make very little sense for people of our age ;)

And do you factor in the loss of interest you would have gained if you haven’t spent to money?
A long time ago, that was a significant issue, but the amount of interest one can get on invested money these days, it's probably far less of an issue.

Mind you, as I understand it, far from using capital (which they could otherwise have invested) many people are actually buying these expensive installations 'on credit' - so, not only aren't they getting any interest, they are actually paying interest!
