I was having a look at the waste/trap that come with an IKEA kitchen sink. Isn't UK standard gear. Can they usually be swapped for a normal basket waste? Imagine depends on the overflow as well. It's a square overflow

Yeah, swap it all out - never use IKEA stuff, it really can be quite bad. Don't know why they haven't changed it to something more robust and universal in all the time they have been doing it.

If it is the same size overflow. The basket size will be fine.

I wouldn't rule out fitting what you have though.

Thanks will a normal basket waste fit with a square overflow?
As long as it's a standard ~90mm waste hole then the McAlpine basket waste will be fine, that's one thing that all sink manufacturers seem to align on.

I've had so many calls around problems with IKEA's own supplies trap setups that I don't even think twice now about replacing it all.

Thanks just hope the overflow fits a normal basket waste and overflow
Can you not just fit the basket and overflow, then replace the trap if you want to? Is the bottom of the basket waste a normal thread?

Thanks so you had to replace the whole kit?
Every time - I've found it isn't worth the hassle. It lasts for a bit and then the seals start to give. As I tend to support my clients for a long time and since every one they have asked me to fit, eventually leaked, I just replace the whole thing every time now.

Just measure the square overflow to ensure the new waste overflow will fit, they do tend to be universal standard, that's the McAlpine one - BWSTOFRS

Soon as customer says they've bought an IKEA sink, I stop by my merchants and pick up waste and trap kit... And I tell them I'll be doing this... I don't ask.
