If any of the suggested names takes over from Starmer, then there will be a bond market meltdown, all public spending will be forced to stop and the country will be basically bankrupt.

Hopefully this will force a general election, as Labour will be incapable of accepting reality and spending within the country's means. They'll tear themselves to pieces, collapsing under the weight of people who can't comprehend the mere concept of cutting anything ever.

Bond Yields are already way above the Truss peak, just due to the everyday actions of Starmer and co. Starmer has noticeably stopped banging on about Truss for good reason - he doesn't want to encourage comparisons as things are now far worse than they were back then.

Starmer should recognise that now is a very good time to quit, as the ship is probably going to sink anyway so he would be best to ensure someone else is captain, even though him quitting will probably make it sink even faster.

We need things to get worse faster, things need to get bad enough that it's over quicker. Hopefully the legacy will be rightly seen as so bad that Labour have no prospects of ever getting elected again.

He must be under really strict orders from his puppet-masters.

He will still get to automatically run as a candidate in the leadership election anyway under Labour party rules. If he's as tough and respected as he'd like people to think then he should welcome the opportunity to prove his greatness. But I suspect he knows he has no chance, so clinging to power against the odds is the only option.

Probably, rumour is that Starmer will get the job of Foreign Sec as part of the deal so he can carry on jetting around and boring the world.

They'll need to somehow persuade some poor Manc MP into standing down. Then Burnham needs to get elected, and I doubt that Labour has a single safe seat anywhere in Manchester or the UK. Reform will throw everything at the by-election, Burnham must be considering whether it's worth the risk of trying.

Politics seems to affect you deeply. My advice to you is largely ignore it. As for actually listening to speeches - WTF!

Mary, Reform voters in occupied British towns are far from ignorant; rather they are the people most aware of what is going on. I can't stand even the vocal sound of Starmer, so have a really hard time listening to him. I've tried, but just end up with a mix of embarassment and concern for what usually looks like someone so out of his comfort zone. Honestly he looks about as comfortable making speeches as I am, but I haven't become PM, I'm happy with sitting on the sidelines.

I find politics as a whole interesting. It affects us all, we should be engaged with it. I'm not sure when we last had a PM I respected though. Possibly Cameron, at a lot of a push, initially at least. Maggie was OK, Major was boring but professional. Blair seemed OK at first too, for a very short time. His fake quaking voice when mentioning Princess Diana was unbearable.
