I can't understand it. Previously we were told that if 81 MPs put their names down then Starmer would be up for election. Last time I checked there were about 90, yet he's saying he's going nowhere.

What's happening? Is he ignoring the Labour party rules?

No one has formally launched a leadership challenge yet.

Ah right, they need to nominate a challenger, not just say he's a useless twit. Makes sense I suppose.

So we have to wait for Streeting to give up with the suspenseful drama and actually get on with it. If his delays, drama and deceit are his way then I doubt he's going to make a great PM.

Is it not 81 names behind a single and formal candidate?

The link above says they need to nominate "A" challenger. So if 3 candidates are backed by 27 each then that's enough.

But it is looking unlikely to happen. They all know they're all useless.

Those that want to jump with their own leadership bid are waiting for wez and will back wez so as soon as that 81 hurdle is passed then its open season and everyone else who wants can throw their hat in the ring without needing the 81.
The 81 is the initial number.

I reckon they'll all nominate themselves as soon as the drama queen does, they may as well.

It would look a bit weird for any MP to back Wes then vote for someone else.

But I suspect that none of the above will happen. They all know that Starmer is the least awful of the awful choices.

As much as I hate Starmer, more so for not resigning, It's looking increasingly like nobody is up to taking his place despite it being such a low bar that has been set.
Whether or not he stays or goes is immaterial, Labour won't be in power for a generation or more after this current term, my fear is that if one of the other clowns takes over, as a country we could end up beyond repair.

Every other party are run by clowns. Rupert wotisface or Kemi thingy look like the only, nearly, viable contenders to replace NEW labour. The tories gave us 15 years of nothing apart from lining their own pockets so kemi thingy is between a rock and a hard place. Rupert wotisface doesn't really have much of a chance at the moment. The other problem with replacing starmer is that streeting, rayner or milliband seem to be the favoured contestants all of whom are far far worse than starmer. Burnham is a wild card but has no constituency so can't put himself forward at the moment apparently. It's all looking a bit trumpish to be honest.

Wes Streeting has resigned from Government. Let battle commence ...
So now he will get the 81 to back him which will trigger a contest and so the other hopefuls can then throw their hat in the ring.

Who thinks starmer will also throw his hat in there
