"You must wait 11 seconds"

Apparently I'm too fast reporting spammers.

I report one, then when I try to report a second, it says "you must wait 11 seconds before doing that".

What's that supposed to achieve?

Someone could record a macro to repeatedly hit the report button or some other way to keep reporting.
That could result in 1000s of emails and notifications to admin.
A 11 second timers would halt this maybe.

As in why would they do that and how many times has that happened in the past?

If it has not then it's restricting those that would report spammers and likely to make them think twice about reporting them.

Quite possibly, but writing a post takes at least a few seconds. Clicking report and typing “spam” clearly takes me less time.

This should be reduced on reports.
Until someone actually uses the reporting link for nefarious purposes then IMO it's best left to a zero delay.

Isn’t it to do with anti bot software. It’s assuming that a dodddery old diy not poster has the lightning reflexes of a St Peter’sburg virus programme.

I reported a spammer. Then I spotted another spammer, and tried to report that too. But I got this “you must wait” message. So I … may have waited and tried again, or I may have not bothered. I don’t remember now, it was a few weeks ago.

It’s not the end of the world, but it seems like an odd thing to do. Is there a problem with people reporting spam faster than the moderators can review the reports? Maybe there is but I doubt it. My guess is that it is unintentional. So I posted this thread to draw attention to it. Maybe it could be changed? If not, it doesn’t matter - I’ll just report less spam, I guess.
