Been busy being a “hero” today (not my words)!
Did a bit of tidying up over the allotment and ran some rubbish down the tip which is down some country lanes near me. As I was coming out of the tip, a Jack Russell darted out from some bushes and was running down the road, all panicky. It was running down the centre line towards a very busy main road. I pulled up alongside it and whistled at it. It stopped running but was panting heavily. I opened my car door and said "Come on then. Get in" and to my surprise, it jumped up onto my lap!

I told it to get onto the passenger seat and it did.

Very few houses in those country lanes and I called on all of them. It wasn’t their dog. Only other possibility was a travellers site right down the other end of the lane. I went on there, crapping myself as there were some nasty looking dogs walking about and asked someone who seemed to be the head traveller but he said it wasn’t theirs either so I took it home with me. Gave it a drink and made friends with it in the garden. Got a ball out and it was funny to see it pushing the ball back to me with its nose instead of picking it up with its mouth.

Mrs Mottie has a friend that volunteers for a local charity that reunites lost cats and dogs among other things (Pippas Army) so she phoned her up. It had just been phoned in, lost, by the owner who was frantic. She phoned them back and with our permission, she gave them our address and they dashed round to collect it. Bloke was only in his late 20's / early 30’s and when he came in our house and saw 'Blue', he burst into tears. He had left it with his mum while he went to Southend with his girlfriend. Dog went potty for him too. It had got out and had travelled over 3 miles to where I found it and apparently a few people had tried to catch it but it got spooked. Poor thing was probably knackered when I came across it so was only too happy for a lift. Anyway, it all ended well and Mrs Motties friend from the charity declared me a hero.
Good deed for the day done….tick!
