Hi, I'm planning to add another switch so Light 1 can be controlled from two locations (please see attsched). Could you please advise how I should wire it, and whether it's possible to do this without affecting Light 2? Thanks!

Move the red which is now in com into L2 and run a 3 core and earth to the new switch.

Then connect in both switches

Brown to com
Black to L1
Grey to L2

Oversleeve the black and grey, brown.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly. Do you mean running a new cable from the 2-gang switch to the new switch?

If so, would it be possible to add the additional switch without running a cable back to the 2-gang switch, for example by making the connection in a new junction box?

You would still need to get another core from the 2 gang switch back to the junction box.

You could most probably use the three core (if indeed that is what it is) to pull through two new twin and earths.

One would be the live feed and switch wire to the light switch you are not altering.

The other would be the strappers for light 1.

You would still loop the feed across the commons at the 2 gang switch. Then the strapper cable would attach to the L1 and L2 of the switch for light 1.

The yellow conductor for light one would be redirected to the common of the new switch.

And the other end of the strapper cable would go to L1 and L2 of the new switch.

Effectively, you have the permanent live in the common at one switch, the switch live in the common at the other, and the strappers linking the L1s and L2s.

You need an additional wire from the existing switch; this can’t be avoided. Which is more convenient, to run a cable from the existing switch to the new switch, or from the existing switch to the junction box?

Thanks Gents. Yes the wiring diagram is correct.

If the new cable needs to be 3 core and needs to go to the existing switch, then it probably wouldn't make much difference.

This is the easiest way by far you don't need a junction box.
