Turf mesh

Hi

I laid turf in a strip of our garden either last year or the year before, can't actually remember now. Time's flying

I'm finding when I rake the area to remove debris or moss etc it's pulling up a mesh - similar to stuff you'd use to support climbing plants but thinner. It's quite close to the top of the soil and this is why it's constantly getting caught by the rake. This in turn is actually lifting the turf back up, even after all this time.

I'm assuming this was there to hold the soil together when the turf was rolled up and I didn't actually notice it at the time. It's obviously not bio-degradable so I don't know what's supposed to happen to it.

I laid a strip of turf in the front garden a few years ago and didn't have this problem.

Anyone seen this before ? I'm thinking I might need to bite the bullet and pull up all the mesh and repair the major damage it's probably going to cause.

So it looks like I'm going to have to think about ripping it all up. The second web link mentions shady areas and this is part of the problem. The grass is pretty poor in this area of the garden and I keep trying to improve it with various things. So this is probably the main reason the net is coming through all the time as the grass isn't establishing itself.
I've only just done some more work on it today (hence my post) so I might see how the next few months go but I'm not hopeful.

Just keep a knife or scissors handy and chop it off everytime it comes to the surface.
You'll get the worst of it eventually.
