What Scam Calls Have You Had Today?

I always ask what colour underwear are they wearing and what brand etc. They usually put the phone down first.

Most of my underpants have C & A labels on them, so I don't put them on back to front.

Since being retired with some cash, I must have had 100 calls which have been either scam or trying to "help" me. All unsolicited.
Sometimes a "bank" will call and start asking me for security details. Sometimes it's really a bank.
Every time I log on to HMRC I get a a call "from HMRC" warning me I'm about to be prosecuted unless I .....

Trust nobody. Everything is porous.

Quite often, legit-ish callers come up as spam. Like a platform I've contacted.
I ask if it's important. They say yes.
So I ask them to put it in the post.

I got a call today on my spare SIM.

Virtually all the calls I get on that number are scam calls and this one was no exception.

If I answer these calls, I never speak. Today I picked up and listened. After about 3 seconds, a recorded voice said,

"HELLO, THIS IS IMMIGRATION. DO NOT IGNORE THIS CALL OR YOU RUN THE RISK OF DEPORTATION.
PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH AND 2 FOR CHINESE."

Then it went to Chinese and I cleared down.

Never had that before.

What worries me about all of this is if / when our faculties wane.

We're all quite happy now to bat away the scammers, but there may come a point when some of us become more vulnerable.

Which is why we need strong and effective protections, law enforcement, and powers to recover stolen funds.
