It might not be an annual amount.
NSPC suggest a figure of 1 in 20 children have been sexually abused.
With about 4.35 million children in UJK
That would suggest that about 720,000 children under 18 in the UK have been sexually abused.

I'm not aware of the statistic, but could it include under age sexual activity?

Dunno they did not mention that ????

Just said sexual assault and rape ??!!!

Apparently 1 in 5 girls

1 in 10 are boys ???

Discussed / reported in BBC woman’s hour

The figure appears to originate from this report:

And do include under age abusers.

Assuming 'Group based' offences refer to Asian Grooming gangs. For the sake of argument let's assume a figure of 5,000 victims of Asian Grooming gangs, who were the other abusers of the 495,000 victims?
We don't hear much about them. I wonder why................

For me it's not helpful to include young people doing things that they cannot legally consent to, but want to do, so long as they aren't being groomed by adults. Two 14 or 15 year olds getting to 3rd or 4th base, isn't the same as adults abusing kids.

No, but it is, technically assault/abuse/rape because the law says that people that age cannot give consent. It also says that if they share "indecent" photos with each other that's an offence.

Then there's this: https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2001/jul/31/childprotection.society

DISCLAIMER - I don't know if anything has changed wrt that, but I'm sure I read about a young person ending up on the register for consensual non-abusive, non-coercive, non-exploitative acts more recently than 25 years ago.
