I am moving a sink unit and the back of the unit will cover an existing ring main socket outlet. If I remove the face plate and connect the wires with wago connectors and the put a blanking plate over the box will that satisfy regulations? Rewiring part of the ring to eliminate the socket completely isn't really viable without massive upheaval

Me too.

But let's not delude ourselves that it complies with the regs.

Unless I'm missing something, why not just make an access panel for the offending socket in the rear of the sink unit?

Whish part(s) of the regs do you all appear to think that this situation contravenes?
I am not saying any of you are wrong but I do not reckon you are all automtically correct too.
Indeed there are reasons for which I would be inclined to avoid it to some degree but I would like to know your reasonings.

Im not in uk but at a guess it’s inaccessible but not maintenance-free

And essentially the only thing that makes it maintenance free is the style of the enclosure the Wago's are installed in.

Personally I'd cut a hole in the backboard and make the double socket accessible.

I know a few folks baulk at the likelyhood of sink over socket encourages water leakage into an around socket as being a reason to say no but those same persons seemed to totally ignore a bathroom or bathroo and other pipework being above the ceiling of a location containing water pipes etc.

In my experience someone letting a full container of home brew of beer liquid travel down thru a ceiling pendant instead of making its way to the "Beer Sphere" , the house smelt like a brewery for weeks.
