Sentencing remarks and sentencing is about the length of time they must serve, before being considered for release - i.e. a bit late criticising the sentence once they are up for release. If you agree with the sentence then you agree with the release.

Sentencing remarks don't have any bearing on how they have behaved once they are serving their sentence. Who said they are being let out 'early'?

again you've misunderstood. Sentencing remarks serve as reminder of their criminal conduct, background and conduct during the investigation and trial, they provide excellent insight to draft exclusions or priority for early release schemes. The Labour government could easily have field tested their new enhanced early, early release. They didn't.

It's entirely relevant if you intent to give them the benefit of an earlier release and want to check if there are people who should be excluded based on their criminal conduct.

Labour have further reduced the amount of time that a criminal serves before being eligible for early release. They have also removed custodial sentences altogether for certain offences. This is detailed in the Sentencing Act 2026. Ask you favourite AI to explain it to you - I can't be bothered.

Yes. They are being released as per the current prison overcrowding scheme. They are not being treaded favourably or otherwise, than any other prisoner in that respect.
