Either it wasn't timber, or it levitated.

3" posts, bolted to concrete spurs, a couple of the concrete spurs failed in that time, but the timber posts did their job.

Yeah, wasn't really a timber fence then. I've concluded that hedges are the future. Don't mind a bit of trimming a couple of times a year.

Everything made from timber turns to compost. Especially if it's in contact with the ground, but it will eventually rot even if not.

Our old wooden shed wasn't particularly rotten, but rats had chewed an entrance hole in it and were living within and under it. Absolutely revolting, and there's nothing you can do to stop them. Now replaced with a brick shed, in our case cavity walled, but single skin brick is still vastly superior to wood and may even cost less these days.

Fence panels are made of wood.

Looked after fence panels will last decades.

A thoughtfully constructed shed will serve its usefullnes. A brick built storage struture will liklely outstay its welcome.

If it's harmless then it won't work. It needs to poison all the natural organisms that want to eat wood in order to achieve anything.

We painted our fences with some water based brown stuff., think it was Ronseal but not sure now. I concluded that it was Bisto gravy. We had slug trails along it a few days later, where they'd munched it off, showing that it was hardly attached and that it had absolutely no effect as a preservative.

Anything that would actually preserve a fence or wooden shed has been banned now. It's all coloured water with a bit of thickener in it.

Ours is 20 years old and counting. The neighbours is older. You are confusing a full timber fence with a conc' post and gravel board fence. Either that or you are just trolling.
