In my first year, the room had a couple of 13A sockets that were metered. And a 2A socket or two off the lighting - not metered.
Of course, I had a four way lead with 2A plug on - but I knew how to manage the load. The local Woolies sold lots of 2A plugs, and there was a trade selling them on to the next lot of freshers.
It was "a few" decades ago now. I recall it took ages to boil a mug of water. We also had very hard water - I recall in my third year, we had a kettle so scaled up that lumps would flake off the element and end up in the bottom of your mug.
So I bought some descaler, which seemed very slow working. I thought it might work faster if warmed up. It did, a lot , but fortunately I'd stood the kettle in the sink before switching it on
I had a 12V 100W heater which would take at least 20 mins with the engine running above tickover - but volt drop in the harness was significant on the vehicle I was using- and a 240V (defunct ages ago when someone didn't think to unplug it after use) which took about 10-15 mins
Not much. Say 3kW for a minute, that's 3/60 kWH, or 0.05kWH. Work that out as a fraction of your battery capacity/range, and that's (roughly) your lost range.
But, if you are marginal then it could be the difference between needing a splash-n-go charge or not during a journey.
A colleague has a tale of a friend who bought some flashy model of EV - but wouldn't allow passengers to have the radio on during his weekly commute - it made the difference between getting there or needing to stop for a charge
