How do I install a bath support batten when using XPS tile backer?

I'm planning on using XPS tile backer (Jackoboard) on my bathroom walls. The walls are timber stud.

I'm wondering about when I install the bath, ideally I want to be installing a timber batten around the 3 sides to support it.

Is it ok just to screw through the XPS boards into the studs to install the support batten? Do I risk compromising the wall?

What is the correct method of installing bath supporting battens when using XPS tile backer board?

How thick is the board? I can imagine it working OK with thinner board, but with thicker board you’d need very long screws which would be bending downwards.

It’s possible to fix additional vertical battens between your bath-supporting horizontal battens and the floor, with additional fixings through to the studs.

(I’ve never fitted a bath, but I have done similar battens on a stud wall for a desk.)

Thanks, yes I plan to use those washers. So just to clarify so I know I have understood correctly...

- I should board the whole wall, then mark a line where I need the horizontal bath support batten.
- Then using vertical battens attach these through the XPS board to the studs.
- Then fix the horizontal stud by screwing from the top down into the end of the vertical battens, therefore keeping all the fixings through the XPS well away from where the bath lip meets the wall.

Is that correct?

You could add adhesive like Fixall for extra strength.

- Now fit vertical battens, in line with the studs and screwed through into them, and tightly up against the horizontal batten.
