Glo worm 24cxi

Ok folks, just a curiosity question really.

I have a 'left hand hydroblock' on a 24cxi to replace tomorrow, has anyone had the privelage of replacing one and are they a complete pig to do? What sort of timescale too?

done loads! na not a bad job, jus make sure ya carefull with the screws under the boiler - heard they are a pig if ya round um off!

Why you replacing it. From what i can see on the diagram its just the diverter valve with loads of pipes going into it.

Ive replaced the innards of the diverter loads of times on these, fairly easy. unless the plastic has cracked this is really all you need to change??

Takes me about an hour to do them...I take it its split and is spraying mains water everywhere .

More important though. Check the combustion door seal, i am finding loads that have gone.

Gaz, I'll watch those screws, I've got good access all around the boiler, just incase.

Rob & John, yup the plastic has cracked, was spraying water over the rear of the control box, tenant hadn't turned the water off, was going for a couple of hours before she noticed and took me an hour to get there. Very surpised it's gone so quickly.

Interesting to know, thank god I've only installed one GW

Think I'll keep it at that.

My spares supplier has informed me there seems to be a problem with the filling loop arrangement too, has sold quite a few.

oh joy, think i'll take a filling loop assembly with me too, it's a 20 mile drive from the job to my supplier.

Next on the list is a 24Cdi DV, read it can be a git to replace, ho hum

and the disconector leaks! think that come's with the upg'd filling loop tho.. glowworm are changin the blocks even before they split, been to a few where they've been!

If you are changing the 24 cdi diverter and spares places are at a distance then I would recommend you take a full set of water inlet plastic bits which go across the lower front as they easily damage/crossthread.

Replacing the diverter valve is a pig of a job !!!

I've read it's pig it also looks a pig so I've allowed 3 hours (includes the initial diagnostic visit) to allow for any problems. Will take as many spares as posible, trying to cut down the travel I do, also gets it sorted for the customer quicker if I go prepared.

are the upgraded blocks made of the same material, reckon they'd go again? Boiler is bearly 2 years old.

on some models (cnt remember which) they come the same, made with plastic.. but i think on your model the elbow where the cold mains is has been upgraded to a copper pipe and i ant had a problem with them!
