does anyone actualy use one now? or is it limited to the old folks? i personally wouldnt bother, its easier to pick up a carton from tesco (other stockists are available) than to get a pint or 2 from milky.

plus the added bonuses of daytime burglars knowing when your out if he comes late.

I'd pay a penny more to see the return of milkie

He was the eyes and ears at 5am, 20yrs ago

The farmers are lucky to get paid today, never mind milkie

It's about time they got those milk floats off the road. 20mph!

I have mine delivered. It comes from a small local dairy farm. They bottle their own Silver Top and Gold Top (have a mixed herd, Jerseys and Friesans I think, might be crossses) in old-fashioned bottles but buy in semi-skimmed, cream etc as they do not have their own separation equipment.

If I feel like it I can walk through their fields (public footpath) and look at the cows on the way to the pub or the shore.

It arrives very very early in the morning. I imagine the family have to get up early for the morning milking.

It is very convenient to have it arrive without me having to travel to the shops, and to have it fresh in the morning.

I have no problem suporting a small local business.

thats how milkies used to be john but nowadays as i said before its arriving after youve gone to work, apart from the plumbers that never leave the house before 10!

do you often go to fields to view cows?

I wonder if they ever really did get to have sex with all them horny housewifes  or urban myth.
window cleaners was probably the lucky ones  and all the postman got was a bite from the dog

Every girlfriend I've ever had in the past thirty years was once a customer

I once saw a diesel milkfloat - a tranny van pick-up with a roof over the back.

I'd like to know what excuse they have for transporting milk with no refrigeration equipment, and leaving it on doorsteps in the morning sun. From a food safety view, I prefer to take my chances in the supermarkets, where I know the cold chain has been strictly adhered to.

We have a kamikaze milkman on our street too. He applies the handbrake, still moving, and while its slowing down he gets up, grabs the milk, and jumps off just as it stops. He's often to be seen driving backwards round our estate. I guess because the DC motors can go just as fast in reverse.

youve obviously youve never been outside the back of asda on a lovely sunny morning! milk left there till the proper guys who move it around get there.

Really? I thought it was only my shop that did that

our milkman drops our pinta of before 6.45am it's in a bottle which i think is better better than a carton ,but we have to pay 5p more than the price fixing supermarkets long live milky  keep a man in a job not on benifit

I was in local Sainsbury's other day, pint had gone up to 40p, it was about 33p a few months back. 2 Pints are now 76p, they used to be 64p. Milkie now charges 61p a pint, we still get a couple in every week though, it's nice to know that at least two days of the week you won't run out of milk.

I reckon Sainsbury's put their price up to cover the cost of the huge fine they got recently for the milk price fixing scam.

in my shop, 500ml is 42p. 1 litre is 81p. 2 litres is £1.49. 3 litres is £2.13

If i remember correctly. We sell by the litre, not the 568ml. A litre is just less than 2 pints, so its worse value than an equivalently priced 2 pint bottle.
