earth question?? am i safe?

Sorry, it is a bit too far for me, I'm in north leeds.

You need to speak to your electrician, and speak to the DNO (or get your electrician to)

See if they will provide a main earth terminal (MET), failing that will need an earth rod installing, but this will require you to have and additional RCD installed onto your system.

I'm thinking a very short term fix would be to swap the RCD and main switch over. At least providing a bit of shock / fire protection.

Daytona, I think the OP means the cutout was replaced (reffered to as the main fuse box)

See what your electrician says this morning. You can ask your electricity supplier for an earth and see what they way, otherwise it will mean an electrician will need to install an earth electrode (rod) and use that for an earth.

tbh if your housing association, ring up and demand to speak to there qualified supervisor and watch your problem go away rapidly, they dont mess about with tenanted properties these days.

no sorry in picture 5 & 7 the main incoming fuse from the supplier was changed and is that not where the earth is usually bonded to? should they not have connected it even though it wasnt already? (also it is the feed for next door - dont know if that matters with earthing)

the comsumer unit is due for replacement but the DNO are meant to be putting in an isolator switch and then they will change the CU when i let them know its been done

Some services cables can provide an earth, others in the interest of safety can't, - this is where an earth rod would be installed. See what your electrician says in the morning.

ok fair enough, when i looked there was only three pictures up there!

in that case follow the advise already given re the dno and earth rod possibilities

thank you all for your advice. i will speak to the electrician when they come but that wont be untill monday.

i will let you know what they have to say monday

also if anyone is interest ive put up picture 36.jpg, inside the consumer unit so you can see how the earth is setup.

the thickest is the one coiled up next to the Mains electric supply
the other 2 are the water bond and the gas bond

took these pics when i had water leaking inside the CU about 6months ago

looks like multiple end of lines on the lighting too!

if i was you i would insist on a PIR to assertain the overall condition of the installation.

will this be mandatory when they replace the CU? or should i not even wait that long and get onto the Housing assoc asap?

also do they have to provide me with any certificates/paperwork as the tenant or only the landlard i.e. the housing assoc?

i have put up pic 37, 38, 39 so you can see the mcb ratings and ends into them

personally when i do housing association work i just give the cert to the people ordering the work.you may be able to get a copy from them, not sure if your entitled to one though.

if a new board then an EIC is the way to go.

well i will try get them to give me a copy if they can (even if its just a scan of it while he's on site) not sure if milner build will do that though

ok.

mul;tiple end of lines on 5 amp mcbs.
why have you got two 6mm 30amp supplies?
is one for a shower?
if so what is the length of run, does it go through loft insulation and what size is the shower.
new board should have a 100a main switch really and be served with 25mm tails to future proof it.dont know what size the incoming fuse is it may be 100a fed by those 16mm tails which means tails and main switch too small
