Just had new boiler installed by Brit Gas, it is now in the airing cupboard on the landing.
Should the water and gas pipes be earth bonded near the boiler?
They have only earthed cold water and gas near the meter cupboards.

Main bonding is done within 600mm of the meter using 10mm^2 green+yellow cable. You do not need to do this again near the boiler.

Thanks for that answer, thats what they have done, I'm happy now.

Some boilers now have an installation plate that the pipes are mounted to and this has the same effect as linking the pipework.

it seams a lot of boilers are have the pipes bonded together (mine for one-done by installer), whats the deal? has there ever been a requirement for this?

Most of the corgi installers I worked for in this area ask for it to be done that way.

There can't recall a requirement in BS7671 for cross bonding a boiler unless it is in a special location. Maybe a gas reg?

IEE Onsite Guide BS7671:2001(2004)- pages 172/173 Bonding and Earthing diagram
Central Heating parts only require Main Bonding when they are extraneous-conductive-parts,see section4.

BS7671:2001(2004)- page 22
Definition of " Extraneous-Conductive-Part A Conductive part liable to introduce a potential, generally earth potential, and not forming of the Electrical Installation"

Any pipework which is an extraneous conductive part will require main equipotential bonded to the MET where the ecp enters the building.
Where all the pipework meets at the boiler is there an electrical reg which requires all pipework to be supplementary equipotentially bonded (except for special loc's.)?

This Q comes up from time to time, we haven't found an electrical Reg but the Corgis ask for it because it is in the Boiler Manufacturer's Instructions or some Corgi rule to supplementary-bond all the pipes round the boiler, the CPC of the boiler supply and the boiler itself.
