Fixing to walls

Probably a bit more of a general DIY question but I'm sure plumbers know a thing or two about this...

Fitting rads to stud walls: I tried those metal fixings where you push the fixing through the plasterboard and when you screw the bolt the bit inside sort of jack knifes and winds itself up to the inside of the wall. Had allsorts of problems with the bolt just spinning and spinning and no clue what went wrong inside the wall - and really found them a bit useless. What do peeps recommend?

Similarly what do you use when screwing white plastic pipes to stud walls?

And finally... masonry... how do you fix 10mm to it? The plastic white pipes I have seen are all little nails and no good...

Thank you...

if you used these a special tool is available for installation

That special tool is very delicate. I split one the first time I squeezed it. the are sort of X shaped tools around which are better.

I've used those recently - worked a treat.

I didn't need a special tool for the ones I used - the front face had a couple of little indentations which dig into the plaster and prevent the whole thing from spinning, once tightened.

If I'm not certain of the fixing I'm using or the plasterboard, I run some silicone down the back of the rad bracket.

After 24hrs the wall will come down before the bracket will come off
