i've read a lot of interesting stuff on the new regs concerning RCD's.
Do the zones still only apply to walls?
Im thinking surface trunking could be the way to go

Keep reading the big red book in detail. Are you sure you really want to go for surface trunking?

If you dont know what the big red book is I can quite see why others have doubted your competence in other recent threads.

Use the search function or go spend £65. Does that give you any clues?

i know what the big red book is!!
just saying that if everthing in the zones is in surface
trunking then you dont have to worry about rcd'ing it all.
why would that make you doubt my competence?

It just doesn't look as nice in surface trunking. If a normal twin and earth is concealled (less than 50mm) within the safe zones then it needs to be RCD protected. If you use certain cable types such as Pyro or SWA with an earthed armour which is suitable for use as a CPC then it doesn't need to be RCD protected. Similar if the cable was protected by a metallic conduit suitable for use as a CPC.
All normal sockets need to be RCD anyway.

I say keep reading the big red book - you say you havent seen it yet - then you say you know what it is. Confused? I am.

Surface looks dire - the stuff of very low price Council house rewires.

Not that confusing. He may know of it's existence but hasn't come across a copy yet.

Surface trunking, yuck, definitely council house stuff!!!!!

Or most schools now a days, latest toy for the little barstools to rip off the wall and then tug the lovely cables underneath!!!!!

Can't wait until one of the little rodents decides to take a bite.

Anyway, stop being a lazy *******s (as the old man used to say) get hold of the lump hammer and chisel and start chopping!!!!!!!!

If you need some labour there are at least 30 brats who like to knock the 7 glorious shades out of our school buildings I can do very good rates for child / moron labour.

Can't wait to quit forever in June!!

Gary now you see why I contacted you, time for a proper job!!!!!!!!!

as gary says....i know what the 17th edition is!! just not got it yet.
yea trunking is yukky but it overcomes the need for rcds

how much extra would you sparkies charge if someone asked you to do a domestic rewire entirely in MICC with any required RCD protection being at the point of use?

Whats all the arguing about.
