So that you can charge like the light brigade?

I'll get me hi-vis jacket

accidently came upon this site and find it rather worring that people are telling unqualified members of the public to try and fix their own boilers :!: There are lots of engineers out there who do not rip people off such as myself but under no circumstance would I advise anyone to try and fix their own no matter how skint they may be.I just pray I am not living next door to some numpty who has decided to try and repair their own boiler god help us all :!:

This bloke does have a valid point, I have thought the sams about some electrical advice.

Frankly I was astonished at some of the advice given out FOC when I stumbled across this site.

Astonished that it may be dangerous or that advice was given out free of charge?

Havnt noticed a dip in my income by offering free advice to anybody.

So...if it was charagable...would that be ok?

I think you have to be careful about what you are advising people to do,to be honest.

I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but you seemed to be suggesting that if the advice had a "charge" attached to it, then that would make it ok.

Is that not what you meant?

Cutting off your own leg ring a bell?

Please explain?

Look I think this is a fantastic site and giving free advice to people is all very laudable and to an extent I'm all for it and happy to chip in some of my own but people are being given advice which means that some of those people who would otherwise have to pay someone to fix something do those jobs themselves thus depriving people like us-plumbers/heating engineers/RGIs etc of making a crust from those people.

I think you have to be very careful about the sort of advice given out because you don't know who you are giving that advice to.

Some of them may sound as though they have a clue but what if they burn down their house on the back of some free advice they have been given on an internet forum?
