dodgy diy gas engineers

I think you have to be very careful about the sort of advice given out because you don't know who you are giving that advice to

I know what you mean

Is there black (soot) stains on the wall above the boiler flue on the outside of the house?

And when the boiler is on what is the flame picture like, is it blue or is it yellow and soft/wavy?

As the guy previously said the thermostat could be gubbed , the HE blocked or the gas pressures are incorrect.

Then told him were to get the bits.

List of parts still available for this boiler here,

people are being given advice which means that some of those people who would otherwise have to pay someone to fix something do those jobs themselves thus depriving people like us-plumbers/heating engineers/RGIs etc of making a crust from those people.

I 've saved myself a fortune from "free advice" from all over the internet.

Good int it

Yes and so have I but with respect that isn't really the point here it is?

The guy you quoted the post from was asking if he should replace his boiler due to the age of his boiler and concerns that parts were no longer available as I recall .

I was simply telling him there were a list of parts available, which I found with a very simple google search which he could easily have done himself, not telling him to fit them or how to fit them.

You have quoted completely out of context with that post BTW.

Me asking him about his flame picture was in reply to him asking about his heating system not heating his rads.

As I recall he had a balanced flued boiler.

I am not trying to make a "point"

I was just confused about your comments about offering free adivce when you are doing exactly that. (200+ posts mostly offering free advice)

Its like cutting your bell off to ring ya leg or whatever ;)

You should really hold Public Imdemnity Insurance to give out advice
