No heat to radiators

Hi,
I'll be totally honest here and admit that when it comes to anything like central heating then I'm totally clueless.I'll try to give as much info as possible and hope someone can give me a bit of advice.
There's no way I'll be trying to sort the problem out myself so I'll be calling an engineer out.

I have a BAXI SOLO 2 50 RS gas boiler (10 years old) which seems to be on the blink.
The hot water side of things is working but when I'm trying to boost the heating nothing is happening. The red light comes on as if the heating should be on but the boiler does not ignite. The boiler does ignite when I boost the hot water. Not sure where the problem lies. Can anyone help me out?

check the three port valve is working properly

also if the room stat is happy it wont fire the boiler

How do I check that?

the three port valve is usually in the airing cupboard

if you switch the stat and listen you should be able to hear it working

this assumes it has worked in the past btw
