I'm thinking of using a basic extractor fan for our kitchen, as the usual hood type thing isn't that easy to arrange, and I don't really see the point in some of these trendy, expensive hoods. The one I'm looking at has a two speed motor. I assume I have to fit some sort of switch between the flex outlet (which comes from an FCU, which is spurred from the ring final circuit) and the extractor. Can anyone point me at the sort of thing I would need here?

Many thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks Holmslaw, but that wouldn't give me the option to turn it off at that switch, so I'd be using the FCU to turn it on/off?
I was thinking of a knob with three positions...

I don't think it comes with a pull switch either...

Are you happy with having to use the FCU to turn the fan on and off, and the 2-way switch to control the speed?

Thanks for the replies.
All very useful.
Will give it some thought....

ok, am i being daft, is this really as straightforward as I can do it? I could use Rockys special mk switch, but it wouldn't change the layout.
BTW, OOI, if the fan doesn't have an earth, would it be ok to use the earth of a 2c+E as one of the switched lives, (ie between 2w switch and blank jbox) suitably sleeved at the ends of course. Just asking....

NO!!!

ouch!!
But, sort of,,, why not? No primary sheathing of conductor in cable?

Rocky beat me to it by a mile, but my Ma has a Greenwood " speeder in the kitchen. I wired it up using said MK gridswitch & it's a cracker.

I can highly recommend it!

Holmslaw,
it's ok calm down! It's a proper kitchen one and supposed to be fitted directly above the hob, probably similar to what's inside most hoods anyway. It doesn't need an additional filter as it's got one, which you can pop off and chuck in the dishwasher. If anyone out there has one, and rates it well, I'd be glad of any endorsements. If anyone has one, and thinks it's ****, I'd also love to know!
Thanks!
