... am I asking for trouble?

Just done my first DIY worktop joint (mason's mitre) and I'm very pleased with the result. The cuts match up perfectly and it looked great when i first tightened the bolts. I was careful not to over-tighten, but 2 days later it looks like it's moved a bit.

The bullnose has developed a mis-alignment where one side is about 0.5mm higher that the other (the remainder of the joint is more or less spot-on).

So I'm wondering what'll happen if I slacken off the foremost bolt and gently try to tap it down again. If there's any chance of me ruining it, I'm happy to leave it be, but I'd like to correct it if possible?

2 bits of 2x1 or simmilar
clamp on the joint front edge
loosening the front bolt

retighten clamp check for flush

tighten bolts

if you have a clamp with a swivel head and a large radius top use the clamp upside down

DONOT use a clamp with plastic pads with less than several layers of paper for protection

cheap clamps without flat metal pads must be protected by a minimum of 6mm ply

Okay, loosened it off but haven't had much luck :( Haven't made it any worse though (yet!).

I could actually get it flush clamping as you described, but even with the closest bolt tightened double-tight, it creeps back up when i release the temporary clamps.

I think the problem is that the nearest bolt underneath is still 6" away from the problem area, so it's just not close enough to maintain the pull at the postformed edge.

Next thing I might try is a mending bracket right underneath the corner to try and pull it down a bit.

yep sounds good

you may need to overpack the low side immediatly to the side of the joint somthing like a washer/penny matchstick
this will allow the bracket to lift the low side before fully tightening to the underside

if that dos'nt work try introducing a bit of 2x1 as a bracket about 6 inches if possible with 3" each side although 3 inches on the high side and only 1" on the low side will work as you need the leverage on the one side only ;)
