pilot light on RADIANT combi boiler went out during power cut
any advice apart from selling my soul to be told by gas engineer
to have new boiler which would cost £2,500
my boiler is 10 yrs. old
i live in NWlondon

There is no reason why a pilot light should go out during a power cut!

Your boiler can be repaired although its getting on a bit! A replacement would be closer to £1500 !

All you need is a competent boiler engineer!

what about the fan running to introduce more o2 for the pilot tony?

how long will apilot light last without the fan running every now and again?

As far as I am aware almost all PP boilers will burn the pilot continuously without the fan running if they have the standard short flue through the wall behind then.

The instant water heaters never had any fans!

The fan is running to stop the heat exchanger overheating rather than provide the combustion air.

you just answered your own question Tony!! :-D

vokera's always over heat and knock off the pilot if the pump flow switch jams or fan resistor packs in.


You should however just be able to replace thermocpl and possibly the gas valve.

British Gas will do you a fixed price repair for £170 which may be cheaper than a GC, TC and labour.
