Insulation testing

Trying to do an insulation test on my ring main! As it is not feasable to dissconnect all appliances from sockets, I have connected the phase and neutral together then testing them to earth. For some reason it wont let me! It wont even let me test between cpc and neutral. Any ideas!
Im new to testing just about to take my 2391 inspect and test!

You have failed already ! Ring Final Circuit - not a ring main!!
Is the IR tester functioning correctly? Is there voltage apparent on the terminals? Is it reading low IR or something?
I take it you are aware there is something like a 40% pass rate for the C&G2391, it is aimed at people who are doing a lot of I&T, not for someone who is just starting out.

Isnt there a new basic inspection and test 2392-01 course out soon ? For people new to Testing.
Did my 2391 in Dec 05 and passed first time i was expecting to fail the written paper.

Voltage >50V present?
Appliances with LNE capacitors (PCs, washing machine filters, motor filters on fridges).

Flick any SFCU with a Neon on, you may find the neon flashes. Then retry.

2392s 1-July or 1-August, can't recall which.

2391 never was (and still isn't) intended for anybody with little or no experience of testing.
