I've been quoted £3,000 to remove 3 wooden windows (about 100cm x 160cm) and fit with new Everest double glazed sash windows. £1k each. Is this a fair price? The salesmen initially quoted £7,000 and said he was doing me a favour and giving me an incredible discount. Can anyone do any better?

I would avoid all of the large National companies like the plague. The little trick with the salesman is just used to sucker you into signing up on the day; well done for not falling for it! The price quoted is expensive; get at least 3 quotes from local installers (recommended if possible) & let each of them know your getting other quotes. You should preferably use a FENSA registered company to make life easy but if not, make sure the company includes notifying your local council Buiding Control & includes the necessary payment (around £60) for the inspection & issue of a compliance certificate; required when you come to sell on!

My price is a million pounds but I can give you a 99% discount as a special favour as there's a "Y" in the day.

If these 3 windows are on the top floor of a 15 storey block, then its a good price

Otherwise, frames are about £300 each and fitting £300 for all 3
