Politicians pay.

With credit crunch ect, and ordinary people having to take pay cuts, what about politicians taking a pay cut.?

As most of our legislation now comes from Brussels why don't mps take a pay cut in proportion to the amount of foreign legislation we now recieve.

If you look at the debate on knife crime which was televised, the house of commons was nearly empty except for a couple of MPs who were dozing off.

It was a disgrace!

Im not sure that anyone has taken a pay cut? merely taken les of a rise. In effect it lowers the spendability but it doent mean a pay cut as such.

Why pick on just politicians though? It would have to be across the board to be fair.

No. By restricting entrance to the body and inability to practice unless you are part of that body. The BMA negotiates GP wages - and you can't practice unless you are in the BMA. Cartel.

An SE's income against a tanker driver's is really in the realms of comparing apples and oranges. For a start, there's the liability issue (personal as well, after Merret v Babb) which continues for up to 12 years after said SE's demise. That rate has to cover insurances as well. We get it wrong, we can kill people. We fall foul of the Elfin Safety nazis and it's an unlimited fine and/or time inside. Tanker driving is not really beyond the realms of anyone with half a brain, the ability to be bored ****less day after day and some Hazmat training alongside the driving lessons. No CPD for truckies; lots for us, ever-changing design standards, the need to have a broad base of knowledge, especially in consulting, evolution of new materials and techniques. Truckies drive on the same side, follow the same rules that vary slightly from year to year, no requirement for further training, no professional subscriptions. Shall I go on?

I think you need to be having a wang at the legal profession if you're worried about the daily charge out rate for SEs - and that rate is by far not the highest, equally it's not the lowest, btw. Expert Witness appointments are lucrative too: £1200-£1500 per day is not uncommon, indeed the legals often ask that it's at that kind of level, so that their fees are not baulked at. Heyho, that's the world in which we live.

After that, you could move onto footballers, boxers, athletes, creekeeters, rugby players, welders, plumbers, chippies, sparkies, developers...

Anyhow, what about private medical consultants? Their fees are not set by any professional body.

The government should put the work out for tender Europe wide. Polish doctors work for a fraction of the price. They should be employees on a fixed salary.

Ok, so how would you deal with, ooh, let's say property renovation specialists then? Only allowed to make so much per property, regardless of market worth of the property, any excess to be given to our grateful trough-feeders?
