I'm getting 3.5% - what about you?

i've been offered 3.5% pay rise..... whoohoo... i can now afford less ! It cost me £78 to fill my car with deisel today !

I think you should stop whinging, our (small) company is fast running out of live projects, in fact my last deadline was today, as of Monday I only have a few projects on site to monitor, we're owed £55,000 (of which about £20,000 is owed by (now) bankrupt developers) and we're only going to get paid at the end of this month because we've managed to get one client to pay a bill by bank transfer on the 30th (hopefully).

I would have thought that in a bankruptcy situation your payment would be way down the bottom of the list and you'll only get pennies. Then again, you could be exaggerating I suppose?.

You could try reading, he didnt say the bankrupt people were paying, he said "one client", that could mean one of his solvent customers.

all sub contract bricklayers for Persimmon homes have had 17% pay cut.  Thats why we have left ! all the others will now follow suit is my guess.

Why pay Brits when you can pay immigrants minimum wage?

If the company did go into bankruptcy the workers get paid as much as allows before the debts

I've read it three times and it still says bankrupt developers.

Oh so the £55,000 is his wages. It's all becoming much clearer now.

Nope. Read it 4 more times and it still says the same thing.

The client that will pay at the end of the month is not the same client owing £55,000.

For the record:

We're owed £55,000 from 6 different clients.

Of that, £20,000 is owed by 2 developers (1 for £14,000 & 1 for £6,000) who are now bankrupt.

The client who is hopefully paying (£8,000) tomorrow is a local authority.

I'm not exaggerating.

I don't earn £55,000.

As a matter of interest, do you find that builders/developers are struggling compared to last year at this time?

Most developers are finishing off sites and are not starting on new projects, they've dropped the prices on properties being completed but they are still not selling. Unless they're self financed they can only get backing if they sell off-plan before they even get the hoardings up. It seems the same for builders. The largest practice in Plymouth had 35 staff until about a month ago, now they have 30. Every week we here of one builder or another laying off staff. There's been a marked increase in cold calling from builders recently too. All in all it seems quite bleak down here in Plymouth atm. On the estate I live in 2 and 3 bed houses that used to sell within the week consistently since they were built in 2000 are not selling at all now.

It's just the same up here in Nottingham. Wherever you go people are talking redundancy and going bust. One of our biggest builders (Thomas Fish) has just gone bust and they've been in business since the 1880s. I reckon we are heading for a recession that will make '92 look like the good old days.

I was talking in general not talking about this particular case, however joe you as usual think you know best.

The only reason you appear to know a lot about subjects is cause your the only one on here who can be bothered to google and wiki all the info.
