Hi All,

I'm moving the soil pipe in the bathroom and hence have to replace the horizontal bit outside that then feeds into the cast iron downpipe

I've removed most of the original but am left with a plastic insert that is plugged into a short spur from the cast pipe

Very nervous about damaging the downpipe so any tips about how the plastic is likely to be fastened to the cast iron. Is it just a push fit or is it likely to be glued as well ? Seems pretty solid in there

cheers

It`s never ideal. I usually replace the whole cast stack costs about 40 quid to buy, make sure you have plenty of putty/silicone handy to stop the leaks.

cheers bamber - yeah its been pretty grim so far! would prefer to leave the stack there if possible - will just have to see if i break it in the process !

Not the end of the world if you do, sealing plastic into cast rarely works in the long term, there will come a point when you will have to replace your old cast soil pipe, you tight b*astard ..lol.......
