Advice needed: Best cheap combi boiler.

All to confusing!!!

Right....

you have just lost your gas/plumbing job and your boiler has just exploded all over the kitchen, you are down to your last £550 and need heat, which combi boiler would you buy?

ps. you need the boiler to last as long as possible as you have just been informed that band A and B boilers are being outlawed next month due to global warming and the new super efficent band AAAAAAA systems will cost £10000+ for a basic model.

I'd buy some warm clothes, a kettle and an electric shower.

I do some work for a landlady who always fits Baxi.. 105HE for her newer properties, 105E fitted to her older properties, but she always keeps one of each boiler in her garage so that replacement parts are available 24/7 so that her tenants are without heating/ water for the shortest possible time. The Baxis give very little trouble when fitted to new clean systems

If only all landlords had that much common sense

the heat line vizo(band b) and vizo plus(band A) are both sold in B&Q both of which only come in 24kw powers

the heat-line capiz is the same as the vizo but come with a two year warranty and have a 24kw and 28kw output models

the heat-line solaris are A rated models and come in 30kw and 35kw

i fit a lot solaris but they cost more then £550

Out of the 2 go for the main which is basically a baxi 80 or performa 24 rebadged .
Absolute doddle to repair when it (and all boilers do) breaks down .
Cheap to repair also
diaphragm is a tenner
heat exchanger £40
Board £85
Air pressure switch £10
never seen a fan go on one
And any fault can be repaired within half hour so no large labour bills

cheers guys.

Namsag - the part costs you quoted were for a Main 24HE?

if so i think thats the one:)

Yeah thats for the main 24 which is basically a potterton performa24 eco Just the case and dials look slightly different.
More people will be familiar with the main than with a biasi .
For better HW delivery go for the 30he it gives an extra 2 litres a minute
At present you can get the potterton performa30he with flue and mechanical clock for £510 from PTS and £519 from plumbcentre .
And as a main it should be cheaper than that

VAT not included

are those prices inc VAT?, i cant find a Main for less than £520.

anyone know of any suppliers?

was offered the potterton performa 24he,flue,clock and filling loop at plumbase for 499 inc

fitted a main 4 years ago never had a problem, also pro combi is really cheap and seems ok. If i was a landlord think iwould honestly spend the extra and avoid the hassle

i use main in all my props. had one ariston, but developed a fault in 10mths.

Ah but i fitted a eurofighter in one of my flats 1999 and still won't go wrong.

Had to go and fix an ariston yesterday that was put in 1996. i could tell the case seal had never before been prized apart the gas valve etc where coated with 12 years of dust and cobwebs.

The woman admitted it had never even had a service.

All it needed was the venturi cleaned out.

i warned her that at it's age someparts will be required in next few years but worth fixing as it happens. She was happy with that.

Yet Ariston's are made out as bad by so many people. Go fIgure.

I know they can be a bit of a pain sometimes but not usually terminally ill. like old vokeras they die hard. Outlive the reputation they have unfairly developed.

Not saying i would buy one.

one of the better facts about vailant is the timebomb feature.

Another is the ease of adaptation to lpg.

The heat ex is no selling point these days. they all use it. rightly or wrongly.

i suspect many will be rendered ineffectie through sludge long before the aluminium method has failed entirely.

it doesn't hold a candle to the Buderus heat exchanger.

not saying the worcester heat ex has any redeaming features . would have done them no harm to buy the technology from their sister company.
